Overview
Palmer & Co Grands Terroirs 2003 Magnum
-
'Limited Edition' 1703 magnums
- Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships: Gold 2019
Introduction:
Grands Terroirs is a combination of prestigious Premiers and Grands Crus vineyards of the Montagne de Reims and the remarkable savoir-faire of Palmer & Co, in a year of extraordinary weather conditions.
For Palmer & Co, a vintage wine is a quest for harmony and balance, a subtle marriage between the memory of an exceptional year in terms of climate and the inimitable Palmer style.
Winemaking:
Since the beginning, it has been in the Montagne de Reims area, a historic crucible of winegrowing excellence, that the House of Palmer & Co has always selected the grapes for its vintage blends.
Mailly, Verzenay, Rilly-la-Montagne, Ludes, Chigny-les-Roses, Trépail and Villers-Marmery: iconic Premiers and Grands Crus that crystallise a century-old heritage.
The wines from these Grands Terroirs have a reputation for power, structure and nobility. They unveil their qualities after slow ageing on the lees, achieving the finesse and balance that has become the trademark of the Palmer & Co style.
Grands Terroirs 2003 is a wine that had needed patience but whose singular identity turned out to be one of remarkable purity.
A combination of prestigious Premiers and Grands Crus vineyards of the Montagne de Reims and the remarkable savoir-faire of Palmer & Co, in a year of extraordinary weather conditions.
2003 was a very unusual year: a dry winter and spring with early flowering, two severe frosts and a heatwave in the summer. Harvests took place under a bright sun and, in spite of a very low yield that year, the concentration was extraordinary.
Tasting Notes:
A seductive nose with charming citrus fruits, remarkable notes of torrefaction, candied apricot, acacia and brioche.
Silky on the palate with harmonious and delicate mouthfeel of candied zest, grilled hazelnut, dried fruit, roasted pineapple, tonka bean, and caramelized pear.
The endless persistence confirms a sensation of great freshness.
Blend:
54% Pinot Noir : Grands Crus (63%) : Mailly, Verzenay / Premiers Crus (37%) : Ludes, Rilly, Chigny
46 % Chardonnay : Premiers Crus (100%) : Trépail, Villers-Marmery
Ageing on lees : 12 years
Dosage : 7.5g
Disgorgement : November 2017
