Overview
Palmer & Co Vintage Collection 1985
Rare and extraordinary Vintages
Palmer & Co is one of the very rare champagne houses to have an impressive collection of rare vintages, such as 1989, 1987, 1985, 1979 and 1976. These precious bottles are stored "sur pointe" in the chalky cradle of our cellars.
The very long maturing period of these exceptional wines confers on them a rare degree of complexity and richness while at the same time preserving their remarkable freshness.
Vintage Collection wines are all 100% Grand and Premier Grand Crus vineyards in the Montagne de Reims.
Tasting Notes:
The 1985 vintage, unique and quite amazing indeed in many aspects, is undoubtedly, for its elegance and concentration, one of the more racy of the second half of the twentieth century.
The 1985 vintage is superb, offering a very good balance between fruit and acidity.
The Year:
1985 was marked by terrible winter frosts with - 25 ° C for several days, which led to significant damages in the vineyards of Champagne. The vines burst under the effect of such a cold and several hundred acres had to be uprooted. Spring frosts in late April, increased significantly many other damages in some areas. Fortunately, Mother Nature did her job: A wonderful and great weather from early July, allowed a beautiful flowering and blossoming. September enjoyed a hot and sunny weather.
The harvest, very healthy and properly handled, was thankfully picked up within perfect conditions from late September with grapes reaching an extraordinary maturity. A splendid late season even allowed a few and rare second harvests in late October. Due to the harsh weather conditions of winter, average yields were less than half that of a normal year.

1st June 1986

55% Chardonnay
