Overview
Louis Roederer Cristal Rosé 2004 Magnum
The CSWWC Supreme World Champion 2020
Disgorged: March 2011
"Readers who can find the 2004 should not hesitate, as it is simply stunning by any measure"
Antonio Galloni
A deliciously distinctive wine that has developed an extra dimension, the incredible window of beauty that is unique to a Cristal Rosé after 15 years' ageing, in which the concentration of the fruit is amplified in a cloud of freshness.
Tasting Notes:
Salmon pink with delicate golden tints. Fine and long-lingering threads of bubbles.
The intense bouquet opens up with concentrated mineral notes. Fruity aromas develop after aeration and then give way to notes of raspberry liqueur and distilled red fruit, almost as if the primary red fruit aromas have been captured and concentrated by the ageing process. Time has worked its magic and left us only with what is most important.
Intense palate displaying excellent concentration and energy. The attack reveals a well-balanced wine that is immediately moderated and controlled by the chalky freshness.
The finish is well honed and amplifies the aromas of raspberry and vineyard peach.
Winemaking:
Over the years Louis Roederer has developed a unique technique for the production of its rosé champagnes. This process, referred to by Roederer as the ' infusion ' technique, allows us to bring out the juicy, ripe character of the Pinot noirs whilst preserving their exceptional freshness. A small amount of Chardonnay juice is added to the Pinot noir maceration, which then ferment together and integrate smoothly and harmoniously.
Pinot Noir 56%, Chardonnay 44%
20% vinified in oak casks
No malolactic fermentation
The dosage is 8.5 g/l.
Vintage 2004:
A classic and very generous vintage that blessed us with both quality and quantity! 2004 was characterised by relatively cool and consistent temperatures throughout the season and a significant lack of rainfall (around 30%) during the growing cycle in spite of a particularly rainy and cool August. This was fortunately followed by a dry and sunny September which helped the grapes to ripen spectacularly well.
On 20 September, as a reward for the intensive work carried out in the Louis Roederer vineyards, the grapes attained the perfect balance between ripeness and freshness, the indication of an outstanding vintage.
Producer Information:
Founded in 1776, and property of the same family since 1819, Champagne Louis Roederer is today one of the last major champagne houses to be an independent family affair. The annual production of its wines (Brut Premier, Carte Blanche, Brut Vintage, Rosé Vintage, Blanc de Blancs, Cristal, Cristal Rosé) represents just over three million bottles, distributed to 100 countries worldwide. In 1974, almost 200 years after the establishment of the Champagne house of Louis Roederer and 100 years after the creation of Cristal, Jean-Claude Rouzaud decided to create the Cristal Rosé cuvée.
To achieve this, he selected old-vine Pinot Noir grapes using massal selection, which involves propagation from the vineyard's most successful plants.
