    Introduction:
    Krug Grande Cuvée is born from the dream of one man, Joseph Krug, to offer the very best Champagne every single year, regardless of annual variations in climate. Each year, the House of Krug honours this dream with a new Édition of Krug Grande Cuvée: the fullest expression of Champagne.

    Tasting Notes:
    A light golden colour and fine, vivacious bubbles, holding a promise of pleasure.

    Aromas of flowers in bloom, ripe, dried and citrus fruits, as well as marzipan and gingerbread.

    Flavours of hazelnut, nougat, barley sugar, jellied and citrus fruits, almonds, brioche and honey.

    Edition 169:
    Every year since the foundation of the House of Krug, a new Édition of Krug Grande Cuvée is created to offer the most generous expression of Champagne.

    The 169ème Édition of Krug Grande Cuvée, comprises a blend of 146 wines from 11 different years. The youngest is from the year 2013 and the oldest dates back to 2000. A stay of around seven years in Krug's cellars gives this Édition its remarkable expression and elegance. Every glass poured from it is the fruit of more than 20 years of careful craftsmanship.

    The 169ème Édition of Krug Grande Cuvée was composed around the harvest of 2013. The season began with a seemingly endless winter followed by a rainy and cool spring. Luckily, summer was hot and sunny, although also marked by hailstorms, which took their toll in the vineyards. The wines of the year were complete, expressive and full of flavours.

    To create this Édition, the Cellar Master looked to accentuate the year's fullness and beautiful aromatic elegance with different plots' wines from 10 other years. The careful attention given to the vines and Krug's unique respect for the individual character of each plot enabled the breadth of expression of this Édition of Krug Grande Cuvée.

    In all, reserve wines from the House's extensive library made up 40% of the final blend, bringing the breadth and roundness so essential to each Édition of Krug Grande Cuvée.
    The final composition of this bottle of Krug Grande Cuvée is 43% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay and 22% Meunier.

    Each bottle of Krug Grande Cuvée now has a 6-digit number on its back label which enables the consumer to discover the story of their unique bottle. This can be done via the Krug App or on the Krug website.

    Background Information:
    When Johann-Joseph Krug founded the Krug champagne house in 1843, his dream was to give his name to nothing less than an exceptional champagne- a champagne with a taste all its own. To achieve this, he set himself a few rules, among which, first and foremost: never compromise on quality.

    Six generations later, he would approve of his descendents' consistent commitment to excellence. Krug is one of very few champagnes houses that produce only premium blends. This commitment to only the best quality and Krug's unique expertise in champagne-making explain its worldwide reputation.

    The wines are made from carefully selected Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier grapes. Krug is a guardian of Champagne tradition in still fermenting its wines in small oak barrels, which gives them an exceptional finesse.

    Another signature of the Krug style, they are made to mature for at least 6 to 8 years, the reward of which is a distinctive complexity and the ability to age gracefully. Each year, the members of the Krug family blend the different wines that 6 or 8 years later will maintain the high quality and style of their predecessors. Truly exceptional years are consecrated vintage blends.

    With methods that guarantee the production and blending of only exceptional champagne, its own 19-hectares vineyard, the quality of the 56 hectare vineyards the house buys its precious grapes from and its stock worth 7 years of production, no wonder Krug is the reference for premium champagnes.

    Krug Grande Cuvee is the ultimate expression of the Krug style - so much so that all other Krugs may be said to have something of the Grande Cuvee in them. Krug Rosé, for example, takes the spicy notes of the Grande Cuvee to a new peak, while Krug Clos du Mesnil is more mineral. According to Remi Krug: "If Johann-Joseph Krug tasted today's Grande Cuvee, he would no doubt say that it was exactly what he dreamt of when he founded Krug in 1843".
