Overview
Dom Pérignon Rosé 2003 Jeroboam - 3 Litres
Tasting Notes:
The colour is deep, with light ambers and copper tints. The nose incites a burst of richness and complexity. Ripe fruit at first, then fig and strawberry as the wine breathes and grows, revealing guava, violet and vanilla.
The palate is concentrated and remarkably well-defined. The fullness is structured, rich. The silky, spicy material very gradually disappears into a mineral, iodine, salty finish.
Vintage:
The 2003 vintage is one of superlatives : a year like no other, defined by extremes. The vineyard was first touched by severe spring frosts and then by an unparalleled heat wave. The vintage of a perfectly ripe and healthy small harvest, is thus the most precocious since 1822.
Background Information:
Dom Pérignon Rosé is considered the jewel of Dom Perignon: luminous, complex and bold, it is the most daring and intriguing expression of the Dom Perignon style.
This jewel holds the secret to eternal life: after being aged for 10 years before being released, it still has the same light-heartedness, impetuosity and vivacity, the vitality of the fruit is intact.
Dom Pérignon Rosé is made from the purest fruit: the rarest Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. Only a handful of the finest grands crus vineyards have the soil and exposure that enable them to attain their fullest expression, which is why Dom Pérignon Rosé is always produced in very limited numbers.
These red wines provide extra vinosity, which must be balanced out in the final assemblage to conform to the Dom Perignon style, making it a real challenge for the Chef de Cave.
"Dom Pérignon Rosé is an extrovert wine that gives the Pinot Noir grape its due, almost to the point of contradiction, since the heart of the Dom Pérignon spirit is to achieve a perfect balance between white and black grapes. That is what makes it so tantalizing," says Richard Geoffroy, Dom Pérignon Chef de Cave.
